Interesting -- you may be the first person I've met who rates ST:TMP one among their favorites.
I have some really fond memories of it simply because it was the first (and we were so grateful for it!), but I don't think it was until the second film (where they rediscovered their sense of humor) that I really believed that Trek might last a few years longer...
