I haven't left any journal entries lately, so I thought I'd contribute some brief reactions to the episode Threads from a Brooklyn household. The players: One female who reads about fan stuff on LJ and other sites; one male who just enjoys the program.

He: Recognize the diner?
She: Hey, that's Der Waffle Haus from Dead Again. Cool!
He: I guess the Canadians figured they might as well use the set.
She: Daniel's even sitting in the same booth!
He: Yeah, it saves even more money if you don't have to move the cameras.

He: Why did they kill off Jacob? What is it with these people, that they need to kill off at least one of their popular characters every year? If they want to get rid of him for a while, have him take a vacation, get lost, ascended, whatever -- but why kill him off? Are they forgetting this is entertainment?

He: And why did they get rid of Pete? He was a great character. Why can't Carter get married, anyway? They were good together.
She: The writers have too much invested in the Jack/Sam thing.
He: So let Sam get married to Pete, let Jack move in with whatsername, and they can still do the sexual tension thing across the conference table.
She: Um. Okay. Isn't this a family show?
He: At least they didn't kill Pete off. So there's still hope.

He: They're not going to do the thing where Oma and Anubis fight for eternity to save the universe, are they? That was done already.
She: ??
He: Old Trek.
She: But that was about 40 years ago.
He: Doesn't matter. Still done.

He: (Speaking of Daniel showing up naked) Why is Sam looking away?
She: Bratak seems to be enjoying the view, though.

He: Okay, how did Daniel get there? Oma is busy fighting Anubis, so she didn't have time to send him home, and the Others weren't about to do it -- especially with his memory intact.
She: That's a pretty big plot hole.
He: I know. Mandy Patinkin was hiding in the kitchen. He did it.
She: I knew there was a logical explanation.

I had the same problem with that last plot hole.

Somebody made the point--and I wish I could remember who--that the Ancients were just being really, really passive-aggressive. They didn't mind Daniel stopping Anubis, and they'd even give Oma a hand in their own totally unhelpful way, as long as they didn't have to intercede directly. By keeping Daniel there as a catalyst between Oma and Anubis, they get to be *sort* of good guys without losing face. And the memory thing...yeah, that was weird, but who knows how much he actually remembers, or how much of it the Ancients still care about keeping secret?
